NBA 2K11 Massive Community Project
Here is the idea, and yes it is a very AMBITOUS idea. I will concede that before anyone else points it out. Anyways here is the concept:
1. 30 Created Teams complete with their own unique Jerseys (Home/Away) and a custom court for that team as well.
2. Here is the tricky part. I want all of these 30 teams to be made up of NBA 2K Community members. The trickier part is that I’d like to get as many of your faces into the actual game. So 30 teams multiplied by 12 is 320. That sounds like a huge number, I understand that. But if I could get say 10-15 people whom know how to create cyber faces for the PC it would be doable IMHO. It will obviously take time, but say as a low estimate I could get ten people whom know how to do this, that would come out to about 30 players per person to create. If I could get 20 people whom know how to do this, the number would be a much easier 15 created players per editor. Somehow people would have to give a link with their picture, so that editors can make them look like they do in real life.
3. When I have accumulated a list of some 320 odd community members ( 30 teams and 12 players per team) I will create a draft. The first part of the draft will FAIRLY determine which community members are the league’s best talent-mid level talent- and the bench warmers. This will be done completely randomly, to be fair. The second part of the draft will determine which teams pick 1st-30th in each of the rounds. I will create something so that the teams that pick lower in the first few rounds will get higher picks in the latter rounds so that there is not a huge disparity in the amount of talent each team has.
4.Once the draft is complete the league will start. I want to have this all running through an independent website, unless 2k could somehow accommodate the enormity of this project. So someone will need to create a nice and detailed website where all the in-game highlights will be uploaded as well as standings, trades, injuries, individual player statistics, waitlist etc.
Obviously this will take a considerable amount of time to create, and I will need TONS of help to do it. Even though there will only be thirty owners, I think it will still be cool for those whom are just players in the league to see their highlights uploaded to both the league website and the official 2k website. As well, each players individual stats will be listed under his respective team. I really want to do it on the PC, because it allows me to actually recreate the likenesses of community members. It also allows for the creation of really sick jerseys with custom logos and the ability to really customize the arenas as well.
So before any of this gets started I need to kind of gauge interest for it. More on the level of finding people who are willing to put the time into creating the custom players, jerseys, and arenas, and lastly a website. I’m not overly concerned about finding 300 some odd community members to sign up, but I am somewhat skeptical that I can get the amount of help needed to actually do this right. If and when I feel like this project might actually be possible to do, I will start signups in the official 2k sports forums. It will be done by a first come-first serve basis until 320 players have signed up. To be fair, I think the league creators will have to do a lottery which decides position and play style for everyone whom signs up. Otherwise there will probably be a huge disproportion of guards and small forwards compared to big men. Therefore this will be done at random. However, once player position is decided I’d be willing to allow people to choose the various packages/signature shots/ dribbling packages for their respective player as long as what they choose is in line with their ratings. Meaning it would be stupid to give a shooting guard whose ratings were designed to mimic a player like JJ Redick assigned the JRich dunk package. I want this to be somewhat realistic! Lol
Anyways, that is the basic idea/concept. I’d like to get guys like Barack I am, Jeebs, BNicholas17, Lakers08, Clutch Theory, Jaosming, Bridge, and more whom are well know and good at creating videos to be involved. I’m not saying they all will, but it would definitely be interesting if the guys whom are really good at creating videos have some role.
I know the idea itself might sound very similar to crews to many of you. But if you really think about it, there are substantial differences. Firstly, this will be a league with 30 owners, unlike crews where there are tons of teams. Secondly, with the ability to really recreate community members likenesses, it will add a really cool component in my opinion. And having a really nice league website to keep people up to date with their player and the team they play on will also be a huge part of the league. I know its ambitious, that reality is not lost on me! Lol
With that said tell me what you guys think…. And yes, I know I’m crazy. lol
I posted this a minute ago at the 2k sports forums, but wanted to post it here as well. In particular, because I would need the help of some of you guys whom create the roster and jersey patches here. If anyone would be willing to help that would be great!
